Therese Langan, LMSW, CAADC
Therese is the agency director and lead clinician at Parkside Family Counseling. She received both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from the University of Michigan, and has been practicing as a clinical social worker since 1988. Throughout her career, Therese has worked with children and families in a variety of settings, including home-based, clinic-based, and community-based group homes for adolescents. Her clinical experience primarily centers on collaborative work with families and adolescents involved in the juvenile justice system. She also works extensively with individuals who have experienced some type of trauma or whose mental or behavioral health problems present as barriers to success in their lives. Therese has received specialized training to work with youth who have caused sexual harm, and she is currently working on her credentials for substance abuse treatment. Therese is also a Field Instructor for the University of Michigan School of Social Work.
At Parkside Family Counseling, Therese primarily practices home-based family therapy, an evidence-based model for working with families who present with a variety of different problems. Guided by her research and experience, Therese collaborated with a colleague to publish a book on youth violence prevention. Stop It! A Practical Guide for Youth Violence Prevention describes evidence-based methods for helping children and youth to live a violence-free and successful life. The book is available through this website.
When Therese isn’t working at Parkside, she may be listening to live music, running, bicycling, stand up paddleboarding, or planning her next adventure vacation.
