Deb feels blessed to have spent forty-years of her career in education. When Deb graduated from WMU in 1977, she was hired as a Special Education teacher by the LISD and fell in love with teaching (and her students) at the Porter Center. In 1988, Deb changed positions, continuing to love teaching students with learning disabilities at Adrian High School and Springbrook Middle Schools. Deb finished her teaching career teaching sixth grade language arts and science at the AMS 5/6 building (Drager), which she describes as “a blast!” Her passion for teaching and learning continued as her career was spent being the principal at Michener Elementary School for the last ten years. She had a very tearful transition when she made the difficult decision to retire in June 2017. Deb has been married to her high school sweetheart, Charlie, for 42 years, and they have two grown children and three adorable granddaughters.
