2016 Annual Report
The annual staff satisfaction survey has been a valuable tool for Parkside. For the last two years the primary concern of staff has been the demand for more therapy space. 2016 became the year that the company could respond. In March, AB Construction launched the project to convert the old garage into two new therapy spaces, a group room, and an accessible restroom. The project included replacing the HVAC system, new exterior doors, a few repairs to the roof and eaves, and building a ramp and accessible entrance off the W. Maumee St. drive. We are so pleased with the space which nearly doubles our capacity.
After two years of service, our Advisory Board Chairperson, LuAnn Bearden stepped down from the Board to give others an opportunity. We will miss LuAnn terribly as she was our first Advisory Chair and a true champion for Parkside as we went through our first credentialing process with COA. However, LuAnn is leaving us in good hands. Ryan Rowe, Superintendent of Madison Schools, has joined the Board for a two year term. Ann Lauderdale has agreed to serve as our next Chair and expect nothing but great things to happen during Ann’s tenure.
Our Practice Manager of just under a year left in the fall to pursue an opportunity with Siena Heights so 2016 found us once again looking for someone to manage the office and oversee the financial day-to-day. We were very lucky to find Jolene Tanner, an experienced administrator and book keeper who has been a great help in moving our financial policy and procedures forward. Jolene begins each day with positivity and energy which makes for a great office environment. If you haven’t met Jolene, stop in and introduce yourself. Or better yet, come to our next open house and meet all our new people. We are growing!
Another area of growth this year has been in Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Services. Parkside is now a subcontractor with Lenawee Community Mental Health Authority offering therapy, case management, and peer recovery coach support and mentoring services to those dealing with substance use issues. We are offering education and engagement groups for teens and for adults who want to explore substance free living. Parkside staff working with this population have all had specialized training for their positions and/or have approved development plans with the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals. In addition, Parkside provides weekly supervision and training for all SUD staff with a Certified Clinical Supervisor. Parkside is very proud of our SUD team and its work for a healthy community.
Because Parkside is committed to treatment modalities that are evidence-based, we occaisionally participate in worthy research. In 2016 we began a partnership with the Policy and Research Group (New Orleans, LA) in a five year, federal, grant-funded research project which will test a new treatment method which is anticipated to help teens live a healthier lifestyle as well as to prevent unwanted pregnancies while addressing traumatic life experiences. This is a blind study with control groups as well active participants. Youth who voluntarily participate benefit from additional services as well as conventional treatment and Parkside staff are provided an excellent opportunity for professional development.
Throughout 2016 we have made changes to the Parkside website (www.parksideforfamilies.com). We’ve updates all the information contained on the site and made the site compatible for use with your mobile devices. Quick links make contacting our office and staff easier than ever. Plus, we’ve added pictures. Pictures aren’t just a design device, we want you to know us and be familiar with our team. You are always welcome at Parkside Family Counseling, LLC.
